As Tanzania prepares for the 2025 General Election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially announced the commencement of mandatory training sessions for all selected Polling Station Supervisors, Assistant Supervisors, and Polling Clerks. This call follows the legal mandate provided under Section 6(6) of the Presidential, Parliamentary, and Councillors Elections Act No. 1 of 2024, read in conjunction with Regulation 11 of the 2025 Election Regulations. The primary goal of this training is to ensure that every official entrusted with electoral responsibilities fully understands their role in upholding transparency, fairness, and professionalism throughout the election process. The General Election represents the highest expression of the people’s will, and its success depends largely on the competence and integrity of those who manage polling stations across the nation. INEC recognises that well-trained officials form the backbone of credible elections.

As such, this initiative is not merely procedural it is a deliberate effort to empower election staff with the knowledge, ethical awareness, and operational skills necessary to safeguard every ballot cast. The training will immerse participants in practical exercises designed to simulate Election Day conditions, covering topics such as voter verification, ballot handling, queue management, incident reporting, and result transmission.

Participants will also be guided on the legal boundaries of their authority, conflict resolution techniques, and the importance of maintaining neutrality in politically charged environments. By investing in this preparatory phase, the Commission aims to guarantee a process that reflects the democratic aspirations of Tanzanians one that is peaceful, transparent, and credible in the eyes of citizens, observers, and the international community alike.

The training programme will be conducted across all constituencies in a decentralised format to maximise accessibility and participation. Sessions are scheduled to begin at 1:00 a.m. from October 25 to October 27, 2025, with different categories of officials attending on separate days.

On October 25, 2025, Lead Polling Clerks will attend sessions held at various secondary school halls and government facilities within their constituencies. On October 26 and 27, 2025, the sessions will be extended to Polling Station Supervisors and Assistant Supervisors, who will receive more advanced instruction on technical and administrative procedures. Each training session will be coordinated by regional electoral officers, supported by experienced trainers who have served in previous elections. Participants will receive official training materials, including electoral manuals, code of conduct documents, and procedural guides.
